Day 8 - A day at the zoo
Well this is my second attempt to reblog this blog. Internet isn't as reliable as it is at home - well at least for me. I had a funny story yesterday and I told it well but now I forgot!
The Giant Panda, one of China's national treasures. No, not me, the black and white furry bear! Here we are at the Chongqing Zoo. We are here to see the Pandas in one of the few Panda reserves in the world. There were hippos and tigers and pandas, oh my! It seemed that every time I wanted to take a picture of an animal it would give me its biggest smile - from the back side. So if anyone is interested in my collection of animal butts please see me when I get back home!
It was over 37 degrees in the sweltering heat and the kids slept through the whole experience! Golly, the things we do for our kids. The best part of the trip was definitely making it back to and air conditioned bus.
This is Fred (I call him Fred because I can't read Chinese) Fred has one feeding a day - it lasts for 24 hours. Fred basically eats, sleeps and breeds. I think he has a great life if I do say so myself! But in the wild he would doing things differently - he would have to breed, sleep and then eat! I think they have to get their priorities straight in the wild! Fred eats about 20 Kg of bamboo a day mainly because there is very little nutrients in bamboo.
This is a hippo. I call him Harry for lack of a better name. He is anything but hairy. It took the pen keeper a lot of work to push him out of the hippo house to please the crowds. Harry was put out to say the least. The rest of my pictures of Harry is of his back side and is rated PG for Pretty Gross!
They have at least 3 Siberian Tigers. Really cool looking beasties. They pace back and forth, up and down its large outside enclosure to protect its territory from the other tigers in adjacent pens.
There were elephants too but he decided not to show his back side for me so I don't have any pictures of it. Lots of monkeys too but I'm sure if we've seen one monkey we've seen them all!
More pictures to come as long as the server is working.
Coming up - a Girly Show!
